Someone was trying to find me. I got an e-mail asking for the daughter of Lewis and Dottie Nordyke. Why would anyone ask that? Why would anyone know my parents’ names? Then I got an e-mail forwarded from
I picked up the phone and dialed the work number—after figuring out it was a legitimate place. Surprise!
The young man explained that when Mother died in 1987 and we sold the house, his father and step-mother bought it. He used to spend the summer and play in the attic. One day he found an old trunk—it was filled with my father’s love letters to my mom, the baby cards from when I was born (how he found me!), and lots of other things.
Through the years, he lost track of the trunk. It has resurfaced, and he promises to Fed-Ex it to me by Tuesday.
What an adventure of exploration for the new year! I will chronicle it here as I touch the past.
